Those who’ve spent their lives in Plymouth can tell you that summer concerts in Kellogg Park are a tradition woven into the culture of the community. Many will fondly reminisce on their fun-filled evenings spent listening in the park, and some might even remember the days when these organized concerts were merely the entertainment of curbside downtown street performers.
Today, the Kellogg Park Summer Concerts are more than a tradition; they are part of what ties the community together, a key link in the thriving downtown culture that makes Plymouth a town of true connection.
Music in the Air
The concerts kicked off on May 27 with the start of the “Music in the Air” series on Friday nights. This hugely popular series runs every Friday at 7:00 pm through Labor Day weekend and offers entertainment by popular local bands. Featuring everything from blues, funk, and soul to pop, rock, and classic rock to r&b, hip-hop, and rap, the Music in the Air series draws anywhere from 4,000 to 5,000 listeners every Friday night—a far cry from the street corner performers of old!
Plymouth Community Band
Next up is the Plymouth Community Band, which will begin its 56th season of playing music downtown on June 16. This diverse group of performers features local musicians of all ages, many who have been a part of the Community Band for years. Their performances run Thursday nights at 7:30 pm, and their largest show is their “Patriotic Concert” near the 4th of July. And in honor of the Fourth holiday, the Michigan Philharmonic will play a special performance entitled “An American Salute” on June 25th.
Music in the Park
The Music in the Park series begins on June 22 at noon in Kellogg Park. Hosted by the Plymouth Arts Council and featuring a variety of local performers, Music in the Park is a family-friendly afternoon of downtown entertainment. Shows will continue through the end of August.
